How I got here

Hi, I’m Tanya!

Looking back, photography was always quietly present in my life. I was the kid constantly snapping pictures, editing them on whatever free program came with my computer. It was something I loved, but I never imagined it becoming my profession. Over the years, I tried and quit photography more times than I can count — especially when a friend or family member had a baby and encouraged me to go full-time. I’d give it a shot, get overwhelmed, and walk away. Again and again.

Then came the rise of Christmas card photos, and my cousin Sonia began what became a three-year mission to get me to try again — really try. So I did. And this time… it clicked. I fell in love with the process, the emotion, the way a single image could hold an entire feeling. Looking back, I realize I’d always been drawn to photography: the books I’d collect just to flip through, the exhibits I’d go to alone, the artists whose work I could recognize by heart. Sometimes, the thing you’re meant to do is there all along — quietly waiting for you to notice

Naming the Studio

The name Galaxy Photography was actually a random download from my mom. At first, I didn’t love it — until the next day, when I saw a microscopic photo of a single grain of sand. Inside it were tiny shapes that looked just like galaxies. It made me think of families. In the vastness of the universe, we may seem small… but within our own world, family is everything. Our own little galaxy — full of love, legacy, and meaning.

A few months later, I came across a sculpture called" She Was Breastfeeding Hercules", inspired by the Greek myth of how the Milky Way was formed. According to legend, the goddess Hera spilled her milk while nursing baby Hercules — and the galaxy was born. The word “galaxy” itself even comes from the Greek gala, meaning milk. That story — rooted in motherhood, nurturing, and cosmic wonder — stopped me in my tracks. For a business built on photographing newborns and families, it felt like a divine confirmation.

A Space to Slow Down and Be Together

Today, I specialize in studio-based newborn, baby, and family photography in Sunland-Tujunga — serving families across Los Angeles and surrounding areas. My studio is cozy, sunlit, and thoughtfully designed with your baby’s safety and your family’s comfort in mind. Every session is relaxed, personal, and centered on capturing the connection that makes your family uniquely yours.

Whether you’re welcoming your first little one or simply want to freeze this beautiful season, it would be my honor to help you preserve it — in your very own galaxy.

Where do I even begin? Tanya was such a comfortable person especially when you’re not comfortable taking photos. She really made what could have been a challenging experience the most memorable.
